We are celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness, we're reflecting on the incredible journey of the Opportunity Foundation of Central Oregon.
For 60 years, Opportunity Foundation has stood as a cornerstone in our community empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to live, work, and thrive. What began as a small group of families determined to create more opportunities has grown into the only nonprofit in Central Oregon offering a full range of services under one roof.
When families turn to the Opportunity Foundation, they find more than a program, they find a partner. From employment support and residential services to skill-building, training, and community inclusion, we've built a continuum of care that helps people grow in confidence, independence, and belonging.
• Supported Employment – Our job coaches accompany individuals or small groups to worksites. This includes people living in our 24-hour homes as well as individuals living independently, helping each person find and keep meaningful employment.
• Vocational Thrift Stores – Through our thrift store program, individuals gain real-life job training and pathways to employment. Skills learned here become steppingstones to jobs in the community.
• Cupportunity Internship Program – Through our coffee kiosk located at the Redmond Thrift store. Individuals gain hands-on experience, build employment skills, and prepare for successful community employment after completing their internship.
• Day Services & Community Support (DSA) – Our staff work one-on-one with individuals to meet personal goals and participate in community outings, fostering independence and connection.
• 24-Hour Residential Homes – Across nine homes in Central Oregon, we provide 24/7 care for groups of three to five individuals, each house tailored to the support levels required by its residents.
• Support for Activities of Daily Living (ADLs & IADLs) – social skills, community integration, recreational, hobbies, vacations, and support relationships. We encourage ongoing contact with families, significant others and friends through visits, calls and shared activities.
• In-House Training – We provide state-required OIS and CPR training not only to our staff, but also to the broader community. Licensed trainers ensure every individual receives safe, quality care.
• Representative Payee Services – We manage benefits, wages, and special needs trusts. Many rep payee providers will only handle Social Security income, but we handle the whole picture, preventing errors and ensuring nothing falls through the cracks.
• Accounts Payable & HUD Management – We oversee HUD-supported housing programs designed specifically for adults with IDD. This includes 11th Street, a 24-hour residential HUD home, and apartments that allow individuals to live independently with support. As we honor six decades of impact, we're not slowing down, we're just getting started! The needs of our community continue to evolve, and so do we. With your support, we can continue to open doors, create opportunities, and build a future where everyone has the chance to succeed.Join us in celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness by supporting the Opportunity Foundation. Your generosity ensures that individuals with IDD have a trusted organization to count on today, tomorrow, and for generations to come.Thank you for believing in the possibilities of all.

In Support of Opportunity Foundation of Central Oregon
Who We Are & Why We Matter
The Opportunity Foundation provides essential supports for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, empowering them to live, work, and thrive as fully valued members of Central Oregon. Our mission isn’t just words; we put these values into practice in everything we do.
What We Do
We deliver person-centered services across residential, vocational, and community-based programs. Whether it’s helping someone secure meaningful employment, supporting independent living skills, or creating opportunities for connection and growth, we show up with consistency, dignity, and a whole lot of heart.
Why We Matter
Because real inclusion doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when organizations like ours break down barriers, champion each person’s potential, and build pathways to independence. We matter because the people we support matter and they deserve options, opportunities, and a team that believes in them.
How We Support the Community
Our work strengthens Central Oregon by fostering workplaces that welcome diverse talent, creating safe and supportive homes, and partnering with local businesses, families, and agencies. When people with disabilities flourish, the whole community grows with stronger networks, deeper connections, and a culture that truly includes everyone.
